The beautiful earthen plaster on these drywall walls creates a gently textured matte finish that suits the look of the plastered straw bale walls. Using earth pigments and ochres for the colour also complements the natural wood of the timber frame.
The owners of this house decided to use an earthen plaster rather than paint in order to avoid any off gassing that could negatively affect their health and that of their children.
Before the colour plaster is troweled onto the walls, a wheat paste and sand mixture are applied with a roller and allowed to dry. This creates a textured surface to which the earthen plaster can adhere.
