In traditional timber framing, wood joinery is used to fit all the timbers together in an exact pattern, with braces lending structural rigidity and solid oak pegs tying all the pieces together.
Joints are made of a mortise and a tenon, where the tenon fits into the mortise and is pegged to lock it in place. This joint shows a “through tenon”, where the tenon extends all the way through the receiving timber.
