Assembled Bents

The bents for this frame were assembled beside the building and stacked until the day of the raising. Each individual timber is separated cut, notched, and finished before putting them together into the bents (or wall sections).

The joinery is cut so precisely that putting together the mortise and tenon joints sometimes requires a come along hand cable winch with strapping around the timbers or a bit of persuasion with a sledge hammer. If using a sledge hammer, remember to use a scrap piece of wood between the hammer and the frame itself so that the frame doesn’t get marked or damaged.
